Frequently Asked Questions - General Questions
We discourage anyone from bringing small children into the studio. However sometimes this cannot be helped. All we ask is that you keep them under control. If you are getting a tattoo and will be in the studio longer than 1 hr. then PLEASE do not bring in children, unless you have someone with you to watch them.
We are open everyday from 12 noon to 10pm.
First, and most important, you should not be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. Alcohol works against a tattoo or piercing in several ways: First, it impairs your judgment and you may pick out a tattoo, or get a piercing, that is silly or not at all what you really want.
Second, alcohol thins your blood and makes you bleed more, therefore inhibiting us from doing the procedure correctly and safely.
Third, alcohol can make you flinch or twitch, and we can not tattoo or pierce someone who is moving around. Drugs are a bad combination with tattoos and piercing as well, in fact, they can be a fatal combination. The adrenaline rush in your body can react with some drugs and can cause respiratory and cardiac failure. Some drugs, such as marijuana can cause the pain of a tattoo or piercing to be intensified and can be extremely painful.
A sober person is the easiest to tattoo and pierce, and a sober person can handle a tattoo or piercing much better than a person under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It is a good idea to eat a well-balanced meal 2-3 hours before receiving a tattoo or piercing.
If for any reason we believe you to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol we will not be able to pierce or tattoo you!
If your tattoo or piercing was done under the cleanest possible circumstances with sterile instruments, in a sterile environment, with sterile supplies, and by a gloved artist, the after care of your tattoo or piercing is up to you. The risk of infection is minimal if your tattoo or piercing is properly taken care of and is not exposed to dirt, pet hair, swimming pools, lake or ocean water, hot tubs, dirty clothes, dirty bed linens, etc. It is important that you keep your tattoo or piercing clean at all times while it is healing.
In this day and age tattoos and piercing are completely safe if done in a clean environment by a professional with sterile instruments. There have never been any cases of AIDS reported due to tattoos. Hepatitis can be contracted through dirty needles in tattooing or piercing, but this can be completely avoided by going to a professional who practices sterile/aseptic techniques and properly disposes of instruments and supplies used during the procedure.
An autoclave is a pressurized device designed to heat aqueous solutions above their boiling point at higher-than-normal pressures to achieve sterilization. A medical autoclave is a device that uses steam and pressure to sterilize equipment and other objects. This means that all bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores are inactivated.
We at Mystical Illusions use a Tuttnauer EZ10 autoclave. Tuttnauer markets its products worldwide through companies in the USA and Europe as well as representatives and dealers throughout the world and is considered one of the 3 leading manufacturers in the world in the infection control market.
Tuttnauer's products have developed parallel to the research conducted by scientists in a variety of fields and continue to meet the high standards that are required for safe, effective and environmental friendly sterilization.
The systems are based on microprocessor technology, and the cutting edge control unit monitors, displays, and documents all sterilization parameters.
Tuttnauer products serve as standard equipment in hospitals-operating theatres, CSSD, day surgeries, universities, research institutes, dental and surgical clinics, laboratories, pharmacies, and various manufacturing industries such as pharmaceuticals, food, chemicals, etc.
To ensure that our autoclave is working properly, we send in a monthly “Spore Test” to the Oklahoma State Dept of Health, where they test a “test strip” that was ran through a sterilization cycle of our autoclave. If there is “growth” on the test strip then that means that our autoclave is not killing all the bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores, and they are “germinating”. In the 8 years of business we have never had this happen. Our sterilizers have always been and will always be top priority!
Reusable equipment such as forceps, ring opening pliers, receiving tubes, etc. go through a 3 step cleaning process before being put into sterilization bags and sterilized.
Body modification (or body alteration) is the permanent or semi-permanent deliberate altering of the human body for non-medical reasons, such as: sexual enhancement; a rite of passage; aesthetic reasons; denoting affiliation, trust and loyalty; religious reasons; mystical affiliations; shock value; and self-expression.[1]. It can range from the socially acceptable decoration (e.g., pierced ears in many societies) to the religiously mandated (e.g., circumcision in a number of cultures), and everywhere in between. Body art is a modification of any part of the human body for artistic or aesthetic reasons.
